Our program for increasing access to sport
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that one in three adults globally, about 1.8 billion people, are insufficiently physically active, with inactivity projected to rise to 35% by 2030. This issue is alarmingly prevalent amongst children and adolescents, with 81% of 11- to 17-year-olds not meeting daily physical activity guidelines. Girls are particularly affected, with 85% being inactive compared to 78% of boys. The COVID-19 pandemic has likely worsened this problem by disrupting routines and increasing screen time.

Marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by physical inactivity due to socioeconomic disparities, cultural factors, and disabilities. Marginalized young people, in particular, face significant barriers to physical activity, including institutional barriers, socioeconomic factors, and negative stereotypes. Focusing sport and physical activity interventions on these children and young people is crucial for improving their physical and mental health, teaching essential life skills, and promoting equity through increasing access to recreational opportunities as well as preventing negative behaviors.
We are committed to creating opportunities for as many marginalized young people as possible to access and benefit from sport. This is why we will support children and youth to be and remain physically active with a strong focus on integration of our target groups. Geographically we will focus on North America and Europe for this program.
