Introduction
Empowering blind and visually impaired people, who are often excluded from society, through cricket.

Community details
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Nepal - but that doesn't mean it's an even playing field for all. People with disabilities in the mountainous country are widely sidelined from sport, educational, and social spaces. For the nearly 16,000 blind and visually impaired young people living in Nepal, gender and socioeconomic status intersect and compound stigmas and barriers. Girls with visual impairments and disabilities in particular face heightened risks of sexual and domestic violence and exclusion from sport and social activities. Wanting to tackle hate and discrimination, the Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal uses one of its nation’s favorite pastimes to create a more inclusive future.
About the organization
Founded in 2006, the Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal is an umbrella organization for all the cricket governing bodies for blind and visually impaired people in the country. The organization works directly with blind and visually impaired people and the wider community including parents, teachers, and coaches to tackle ableism and sexism in sport and society. It focuses on challenging stigmas and stereotypes, developing participants’ leadership skills, and equipping them with tools and knowledge to break barriers and reach their full potential. The Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal collaborates with like-minded organizations to push for people with disabilities to hold positions on provincial sports councils and utilizes media of all forms to tackle hate and advocate for a more inclusive future.

United by Sport
The Cricket Association of the Blind Nepal’s holistic work harnesses one of Nepal's most-played sports to tackle barriers stemming from ableism and gender-based discrimination. Through its efforts, the organization creates pathways for people with disabilities to reach their full potential in sport and society, amplifies their voices, and challenges stereotypes.
