Introduction
A holistic approach supports those too often left behind to pave the way forward.

Community details
Pemba is a place of contrast. The Mozambique port town is surrounded by beaches, oceanic wildlife, and coral reefs, but it is also engulfed by significant socio-economic challenges. Due to the conflict in the Cabo Delgado province, internally displaced people make up around half of Pemba’s population. Out of 191 countries, Mozambique ranked 185th on the 2022 Human Development Index, highlighting widespread challenges people face across health outcomes, educational opportunities, and living standards. Amid these challenges, and in collaboration with local communities, Fundación Ayuda en Acción supports efforts to combat discrimination and create opportunities
About the project
Fundación Ayuda en Acción focuses on empowering women, girls, and people with disabilities by addressing gender-based discrimination, xenophobia, and ableism. The project works to build bridges between internally displaced people and their host communities. In schools, it trains teachers and coaches to foster social cohesion, inclusion, and mutual understanding. Through sports and educational activities, participants develop life skills, confidence, and the tools they need to become role models in their communities—paving the way for them to help build a more tolerant and inclusive society.
