CORING GIRLS* participants at the 2024 charity soccer match at Berlin's Poststadion
The Kreuzberg district in Berlin is shaped by a mix of long‑standing communities, migrant families, and young people navigating varied social and economic realities. While the district offers vibrant civic life, many girls face additional barriers to participating in sports and extracurricular activities - from financial constraints to cultural expectations or limited access to safe, inclusive spaces. These conditions make it harder for them to explore their interests, connect with peers, or gain the confidence that comes from supportive group experiences. By being centrally located and well‑connected to schools, youth centers, and local initiatives, Kreuzberg offers strong potential for community partnerships - and SCORING GIRLS* builds on these local strengths to ensure that girls can access opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
SCORING GIRLS* uses football as an entry point to gain confidence, build a community and personal growth for girls aged 8–18 who face discrimination, migration‑related barriers, or socio‑economic challenges. The project offers free weekly football training in Kreuzberg complemented by monthly empowerment workshops, holiday camps with peer‑to‑peer leadership elements, and local community activities.

For many participants this is a first experience of organized sport. Beyond sports, the program provides structured educational support focused on self‑efficacy, resilience, teamwork, body positivity, and social participation. SCORING GIRLS* strengthens girls’ ability to navigate challenges, expand their perspectives, and see themselves as active contributors to their neighborhood and wider society.
By providing free access to sport activities for girls in Kreuzberg who might otherwise be excluded from regular clubs or programs, SCORING GIRLS* directly aligns with the overall programmatic goal to remove barriers that prevent underserved young people from being and staying physically active. The unique strength of this project lies in its dedicated support for girls who stand at the intersection of gender, socio-econcomic disadvantage, and multicultural backgrounds.
