Community details

Based in Northern Uganda's Acholi sub-region, the project works across Gulu City, Gulu District, and Nwoya District to expand opportunities for girls, boys, and young people with disabilities. Through adaptive sport, Light for the World and Ability Sports Africa are helping build more inclusive communities where young people can develop confidence, skills, and a stronger sense of belonging

About the project

By using adaptive and inclusive sports as a catalyst for change, this Moving for Change project supporting Light for the World, empowers girls, boys and youth with disabilities to build confidence and life skills while improving their wellbeing and educational outcomes. Through vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and start-up capital for caregivers, the project strengthens pathways to sustainable livelihoods and economic resilience. At the same time, community engagement, disability inclusion, and gender-based violence prevention activities foster safer, more inclusive environments where young people can thrive. By placing girls, boys and youth with disabilities at the centre as leaders, participants, and changemakers, the project advances social inclusion, equity, and long-term community impact.

Moving for Change

Moving for Change is the adidas Foundation's global program focused on embedding sport within the work of international development organizations. By integrating sport into existing development efforts, the program helps partners explore how sport can contribute to outcomes across areas such as inclusion, education, health, livelihoods, and community development. Through Moving for Change, Light for the World and Ability Sports Africa are using adaptive sport as a vehicle for disability inclusion, creating opportunities for girls, boys, and young people with disabilities to build confidence, develop life skills, strengthen social connections, and participate more fully in their communities.
